Letter from HMRC

The extract below is from a letter sent to me by Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

This is not a one-off occurrence. I know another pub in Sandbach, now closed, which also used to underpay its bar staff. Please spare a thought for the hired hands next time you’re out for a beer. Admittedly times are hard but even if you can’t afford a tip at least smile and say thank you.

Meanwhile, Mr Scott posts this on Facebook. He mentions no names so it may be just a coincidence, or it may be in response to HMR&C upholding my claim.

If he is referring to me then I say he’s the arsehole for paying his staff less than the statutory minimum wage. He got his comeuppance, HMR&C backed up my claim for arrears, do you think they would have done that if Mr Scott had been in the right?

There’s a term for underpaying staff, Wage Theft, because that’s what it is.
