This is mainly potatoes, but it tastes lovely.

The spuds were boiled in a large saucepan with a couple of carrots, plus some chopped chillies and a chopped onion, then transferred to the ovenproof bowl. The layers of veg mix were alternated with layers of chopped bacon and grated cheese up to about an inch from the top.


I then mashed the remaining mixture in the pan with some milk and added this as the “lid” with some more grated cheese on top and gave it an hour in a fairly hot oven to brown and crisp.

A cheap meal for two, or two cheap meals for one. Served, in the interests of not being considered as too healthy, with a generous gloop of brown sauce. Gorgeous!
