Guide Bridge revisited

A couple of months ago I published some old photos of Guide Bridge station on the blog (click here to see the entry), I visited the station again today and as can be seen in these photos there’s a new building going up just about where the old ones on platforms 2 and 3 were.

The new ticket office is nowhere near as interesting a structure as the old wooden platform buildings were.

GB new TO 2

But it will be functional and most of the station’s passengers make their morning journeys towards the city so it makes sense to relocate the station staff onto the Manchester bound platform.

Compare these two views.

Both taken from about the same spot, by the same photographer, but with almost 40 years between them.
